I stopped by to have some snack and sake before meeting with friends for dinner. Fish eggs, Salmon and Uni are just enough for hold me up. It was nice to have an easy place to sit while waiting. Service was good and I will be back next time for a full meal.
Thank you, Takesushi, for existing! I came in for some lunch specials but ordered from their regular menu as well. The last time I went for omakase, they served this delicious toro hand roll and a miso-glazed Chilean sea bass, which melted like butter in your mouth! The spicy tuna roll, soba noodles and HANDMADE shrimp gyoza were also stellar. I've tried a lot of gyoza in Sunnyside but this changed the game. Pretty sure I'm now uppity about gyoza
Went to say goodbye to Takesushi, as we frequented this restaurant over the years but they are closing. This time we ordered some of the more expensive items on the menu, and everything hit the spot. I noticed complaints of service from other recent reviews but I noticed that they have added some staff to handle the larger volumes! In fact, with the crowds the restaurant has a much livelier vibe, which I enjoyed a lot! Sadly, I will probably not get another chance to return but glad that they are going out strong.
I can't remember the last time I came to Queens for dinner. We wanted to come here to support them as they have plans to officially close in October. Reportedly, this sushi place may be the first omakase place in NYC! We were happy to get a reservation for 5 on a Tuesday at 6:30pm. They seated us early as well. I think the news of them closing have generated a lot of business. Good thing is we never felt rushed or felt crowded. We shared the fried eel and chicken appetizers. They were expertly seasoned and fried. We then decided to do the 110 omakase special, which started out with an octopus sashimi in a very wasabi heavy sauce. I liked it a lot! Then we had the fried soft shell crab. The omakase of 12 came in 2 plates of 6 each. The rice wasn't the best as it came apart. We liked the simplicity of the fishes but I was left with a similar sentiment as other patrons that it was quite expensive for what we got. We finished with a hand roll. I'm glad we were able to support this business before its planned closure in October. I recommend making a reservation as the wait could be long.
A last attempt at trying Takesushi before they close in October - I got there exactly at 12PM as they opened and got a seat for 4 quite easily on a Sunday but it was quite full already. There was 3 servers, mine being a sweet older Japanese lady that was very efficient and personable! I love love loved the agedashi tofu - it, and the tatsuta age, had a light batter and the tofu was super soft and light! The squid was pretty good, especially with the Mayo on the side. The sushi and chirashi tasted fresh and very tender, especially the scallop and chutoro. The uni was decent as well. The overall experience was good and not bad for the price but I had higher expectations just from all the rave reviews on Instagram. Definitely worth a visit if you can!
